Cattle inventory management

Let the group change without losing the cattle inventory story.

RanchBooks manages stockers, feeders, rope cattle and commercial lots by head count while preserving the weight, location, expense and inventory events that change a group over time.

Inventory is not the same as accounting

A pasture move, split or death changes cattle inventory without becoming a sale.

Grouped cattle rarely stay exactly as they were on purchase day. Some head move to another pasture. A few may be culled or transferred. Groups can be split for different use or merged when compatible. Average weight changes, feed is added and market value moves before the cattle are eventually sold.

RanchBooks records those operational events as inventory history. Actual income is recorded when an actual sale occurs. That distinction keeps cattle counts meaningful without filling the accounting records with transactions that never happened.

Cattle inventory questions

Can I move only some of a group to another pasture?

Yes. RanchBooks supports moving a selected head count while retaining inventory history for both the original and destination group.

Can I merge two cattle groups?

Compatible grouped-livestock records can be merged while preserving the inventory operation in history.

Do weight changes create accounting income?

No. Weight and estimated value changes are operational history. Accounting income is created when a real sale occurs.
